RESUMO

BACKGROUND: While the initial wave of the COVID-19 pandemic was controlled much better in North Cyprus, the number of cases saw a rapid increase as of November 2020. Local authorities implemented further restrictions with a second lockdown across the country to bring the cases under control. The present study aims to identify the potential predictors of COVID-19 related obsessions of adults during the second lockdown. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: This is a descriptive survey conducted with 652 participants over the age of 18. The Obsession with COVID-19 Scale, Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, and a Demographic Information Form were used to obtain information. Data were analyzed using SPSS and Spearman's Rho was calculated to examine existing relationships between COVID-19 anxiety and other research variables. A linear regression analysis was conducted to identify potential predictors of COVID-19 related obsessions. RESULTS: Participants infected with the COVID-19 virus had higher levels of anxiety and obsessions than those who weren't. The sample multiple correlation coefficient was .66, indicating that approximately 43% of the variance of the COVID-19 related obsessions was accounted for by the linear combination of strength measures. As expected, anxiety, positively and being infected with COVID-19 negatively predicted COVID-19 related obsessions. CONCLUSION: The similarities and differences of the findings were compared with the results from the literature, yet the relationship between variables was identified to be higher when compared to similar studies.

The most crucial period for the teenagers is the secondary school period. The affection and knowledge that lead the student to build up his or her own self individuality, develop positive relationships, and cope with possible conflicts must be given to her or him by his or her family and neighborhood. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation among the self-respect, the need for the solution of the conflict, social anxiety, and emotional exploitation within the range of the middle school students. The aforementioned research is such a kind of descriptive study which used one of the correlational survey research models, the quantitative method. In addition to the Personal Data Collection Document, the Scales of the Need of Conflict Resolution, emotional exploitation, the Rosenberg Self-Respect Scale, and the Social Anxiety Scale for the Teenagers are used. The research universe of this study is composed of 10.196 middle school students studying in the 6th, 7th, and the 8th year, at the public schools of the Ministry of Education of the TRNC. The sample group of the research is constituted by 530 volunteer middle school students from Famagusta, Guzelyurt, Lefke, Nicosia, and Kyrenia, respectively. The AMOS 2.1 and the SPSS 25 are used to resolve the data collected. The study that carried out through the structural equality method verifies that there is an agent role of the Need for the Conflict Resolution in between the self-respect and emotional exploitation. However, there cannot be verified any relation in between the self-respect and the social anxiety within the agent role of the Need for the Conflict Resolution. There has been verified meaningful and positive correlations among through the marks of the students taken from the NCR and the SAST, the NCR and the EES, the NCR and the RSRS, the SAST and the RSRS, the SAST and the EES, and the EES and the RSRS.

COVID-19 has affected North Cyprus since the beginning of March 2020. On March 10th 2020, the council of ministers in North Cyprus announced a lockdown and listed some restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus; schools and entertainment centres were closed, and children had to spend most of their day at home. This study aims to examine the use of mobile technology before and during the COVID-19 lockdown period by children aged three to six, based on parents' opinions. This is a descriptive study with a sample of 319 parents. Data and demographic information were collected with a questionnaire and analysed with SPSS (24.0). Comparing the duration of mobile technology device usage before the pandemic and during the lockdown period, an increase is evident, as expected. Of note, when compared to the pre-pandemic period, it is found that there is a decrease in the rate of mobile technology device usage for video viewing during the lockdown period. The findings also suggest that children mostly first experienced mobile technology devices in some way before 36 months of age. This study has determined that most children do not have their own mobile technology device.
